SCMAF Goes Global at the Awards and Installation Banquet

Plenty of plaques and trophies were presented at SCMAF’s Annual Awards and Installation Banquet which was held at the Anaheim Marriott Suites in Garden Grove. The theme of the banquet was “Passport to an evening of inspiration”. This theme was inspired by incoming President Carlos Espinosa’s 2011 SCMAF slogan of “Global Vision, Local Commitment.”

2010 Awards and Installation Social

The evening began with a brief welcome from the Master of Ceremonies, Jeff Wilson. Jeff introduced to the stage Camryn and Brooke Espinosa and Gabriella Schneider to lead everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance. This was followed by Tiffany Tatreau who song the National Anthem. Jeff then introduced SCMAF President Daniel Schneider to the stage to bring the night’s banquet to order.

Daniel then recognized the Past Presidents of SCMAF in the audience. He then thanked the 2010 Association Officers and SCMAF staff in attendance and everyone else during the past year that helped contribute to SCMAF’s success which included contributions from the following sponsors and partners: Cal South Soccer, Diamond Sports, Dudley/Spalding, Hirsch & Associates Inc., Innovative Playgrounds, Los Angeles County, Major League Softball, Mizuno and Musco Lighting, Inc.

Before the dinner portion of the Awards and Installation, SCMAF presented two student scholarships to the following recipients: Daisy Lopez of Long Beach State and Kaci Thol of Long Beach State. Each student received a check sponsored by the Guerrero Family Scholarship fund and money raised by SCMAF’s 50/50 raffle from the SCMAF Institute. The two scholarship winners are now registered as student members of SCMAF through the 2011 calendar year. SCMAF was able to raise an additional $220.00 from this year’s 50/50 Awards and Installation raffle which will benefit the 2011 scholarship recipients.

After dinner, the awards portion of the banquet was set to begin. These awards are divided into ten different categories. These categories are the Golden Shield Award, Appreciation Award, Honorary Membership, Service Award, Outstanding New Sports Facility Award, Innovative Sports Activity Award, Jim Bishop Award, Special Recognition Award, Citation Award and the Ed Baldwin “Spirit of SCMAF” Award.

As the banquet came to an end, it was then time to install the new 2011 Board of Directors. Past-President Joe Mendoza (1994, City of Cerritos) served as the installing officer. After many thanks, Joe relieved the 2010 Board of their duties and presented the new 2011 Board. The new 2011 Board is as follows:

After the installation of the 2011 Board, new SCMAF President Carlos Espinosa addressed the audience and thanked them for their support. He affirmed his commitment to his new position and his willingness to grow SCMAF into an even stronger Federation. The banquet then came to a close and the audience was invited to a President’s Membership Appreciation Party and trivia contest.
