For the second consecutive year the SCMAF Institute brought in the rain, but it did not stop the over 200 registrants from attending this event. SCMAF held its 42nd Annual SCMAF Institute at The Centre for Sycamore Plaza sponsored by Cal South, Events by Noonan, Major League Softball, Musco Lighting and Ross Creations. Over 300 participants from over 40 agencies across Southern California embarked on a day of learning, networking, a vendor fair and even the opportunity to compete in the annual trivia bowl contest.
Capitalizing on last year’s new format and the reduction of registration fees, SCMAF moved this year’s Institute to the City of Lakewood. Even though the location may change, the primary goal of the SCMAF Institute is to provide students, coordinators, supervisors, administrators, commissioners and part-time staff with a valuable and affordable training opportunity. Registrants this year had the opportunity to select three educational session topics among 14 subjects. Educational sessions ranged from sponsorship activation and employee motivation to fundraising and resume and interview skills.

Opening General Session
Keynote Speaker - Jimmy Campanis
The keynote speaker for the Institute was former Dodgers catcher Jimmy Campanis. Jimmy had the honor of catching the last game of Hall-of-Fame pitcher Sandy Koufax. Jimmy gave the packed ballroom a humorous perspective of the world of baseball and some insight on the latest happenings of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Jimmy was involved with the organization for three World Series championships (one as a player in 1965 and two as a member of the organization in 1981 and 1988). He recounted the story of his 1988 World Series ring being stolen while participating in a golf tournament and the fortunate recovery of the ring in the weeks that followed. Jimmy was able to take a few questions from the audience and even took some pictures, signed autographs and showed off his ring to the participants.

Educational Session - Sponsorship Activation
Vendor Fair
SCMAF would like to thank the Institute Committee for all their hard work on once again putting together another successful event, all the agencies that participated in the Institute, the speakers which put together this year's educational sessions and to our vendors and sponsors for participating. SCMAF was also able to raise over $160.00 for this year's Student Scholarship Fund sponsored by the Guerrero Family Scholarship Fund. Thanks to all that participated in the 50/50 raffle. SCMAF looks forward to seeing everyone again at the Institute next year in 2012.
