The 6th Annual California Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports Spotlight Awards, presented by the Anthem Blue Cross Foundation, honors individuals, organizations and events that positively impact the physical activity and fitness levels of California's children and youth. All nominations and supporting comments must be submitted online by June 30, 2011.

Park and recreation agencies have two categories to submit entries:

• The Park and Recreation Program of the Year is awarded to a local, regional or state park and recreation agency that has developed an innovative program(s) to engage California children and youth in physical activities that are fun and habit forming.
•  Event of the Year is awarded to an event in California that engages children and youth in physical activity and encourages young people to develop life-long physical activity habits.

The committee is looking for applications that employ innovation, inspiration and initiative to significantly impact physical activity and fitness levels of California children and youth. The Council seeks programs that have documented their impact.

A Gold, Silver and Bronze medalist will be named in six different categories. Gold Medalists will receive $10,000 to further promote physical activity in their communities; Silver Medalists will receive $2,500; and Bronze Medalists will receive $1,000. Gold Medalists will be presented their award at a special ceremony. All medalists will be prominently profiled on the Council's website, www.CalGovCouncil.org.
