In attendance were more than 100 parks and recreation professionals representing agencies from all different regions of southern California. SCMAF’s goals for attendees were to learn about the importance of establishing a comprehensive maintenance program at their municipal athletic fields. In addition, participants learned tips on preparing and maintaining high quality ball fields and the best practices of the Home Depot Center’s turf managers and Major League Softball’s ball field specialists. The workshop was divided into two parts. One part was held at the Home Depot Center and was facilitated by Shaun Ilten and the Turf and Grounds Staff at the Home Depot Center. Their discussion focused on best practices of turf and grounds and included a tour of the Home Depot Center. The second part was facilitated by Patrick May, vice president of Major League Softball, at neighboring Stevenson Park. Patrick discussed best practices for ball field prep which covered such topics as the correct way to line up bases and prepare fields for league play.
