Over 750 young swimmers from four of SCMAF Associations plunged into the water at the 2015 SCMAF Swimming Championships held at the SPLASH! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center on Saturday, August 15th. It was one of the hottest days of the summer, but it did not stop these young swimmers from competing against the best recreational swimmers in Southern California.

Swimmers, ranging in ages from 5-18, competed in sixty-two events which included the 25, 50 and 100 meter, freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. The events were viewed by over 1,200 spectators as the crowd cheered on the swimmers to do their best. In overall team results, the El Monte Sharks (San Gabriel Valley Association) placed first followed by the Kern County All Stars (Southern San Joaquin Association) and the Santa Ana Wahoos (Orange County Association). Thanks to all the teams and individual swimmers that competed in this event. Medals were awarded to the top three finishers in each event with ribbons awarded to those who placed fourth through sixth.

More than 125 volunteers and coaches were directed by SCMAF’s Swimming committee to help keep the meet on time. They did the best they could even after the extreme afternoon heat caused a power failure on the timing equipment.  The volunteers were responsible for the timing of the swimmers, the distribution of the awards and the organization of the swimmers into their proper lanes. A special thanks goes to all the members of the Swimming Committee, volunteers and coaches for making the swim meet a success. Let's also not forget to thank all the parents and guardians who gave these children the opportunity to compete in such an event. We hope to see all of you again next year!
