With the threat of high temperatures in the forecast, the SCMAF Track and Field Championships would be greeted by an overcast day. With the conditions being ideal for racing, it was a day filled with countless memories and hope for the future. The hope that one day these athletes would be participating in track and field at a higher level: high school, collegiate or perhaps representing the United States on a national level. No matter what the weather conditions were, the youth of Southern California came out in droves and displayed great competitive spirit. It was truly an incredible day filled with everlasting memories, team spirit and good sportsmanship.

The track meet was once again held on the first Sunday in June at Warren High School in the delightful City of Downey. This year the SCMAF Track and Field Championships registered 872 participants from over thirty cities and agencies. SCMAF offered ten different events in which the athletes could compete in. The track events consisted of: 1600 Meter Run, 800 Meter Run, 400 Meter Run, 200 Meter Dash, 100 Meter Dash and the 50 Meter Dash. The field events consisted of: Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put and the Softball Throw.

The morning began with the traditional Parade of Athletes around the track representing the four SCMAF Associations participating in the meet. (BASE, Inland Empire, Orange County and San Gabriel Valley) SCMAF President, David Coleman from the City of Victorville, addressed the crowd thanking everyone for participating and wishing them the best of luck. The meet began shortly after 9:30 as the first race of the day was the girls 1600 Meter Run while Long Jump kicked off the field events. Even though there were no records broken this year, there was an abundance of exciting races and competition throughout the day.

A very big thank you goes to the following for assisting with the 2016 SCMAF Track and Field Championships: Jeff Van Sickle and the City of Garden Grove Staff, Boys and Girls Club of Palm Springs, City of Arcadia, City of Buena Park, City of Carson, City of Chino, City of Downey, City of Duarte, City of Inglewood, City of Pasadena, City of San Dimas, County of Los Angeles, SCMAF Staff and Warren High School. Your commitment and dedication made this event another success.
