FEBRUARY: AMERICAN HEART MONTH
 |
February is American Heart Month, and unfortunately, most of us know someone who has had heart disease or stroke. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States; one in every three deaths is from heart disease and stroke, equal to 2,200 deaths per day. These conditions are also leading causes of disability preventing people from working and enjoying family activities. Cardiovascular disease is also very expensive—together heart disease and stroke hospitalizations in 2010 cost the nation more than $444 billion in health care expenses and lost productivity. However, we can fight back against heart disease and stroke.

CITY OF FONTANA RECOGNIZED BY SCMAF AT LA CLIPPERS GAME |
On Sunday, January 22, before the Los Angeles Clippers hosted the Toronto Raptors at the Staples Center, SCMAF Executive Director Tim Ittner presented City of Fontana Mayor Acquanetta Warren with SCMAF's "Golden Shield" Award. The Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation (SCMAF), in partnership with Major League Softball Inc. (MLS), has awarded two (2) individual baseball/softball field renovation grants to the City of Carson’s Veterans Park and the City of Norco’s Clark Field.

SCMAF History: In 1982, Bakerfield's Hertiage Park hosted the SCMAF Boys and Girls Cross Country Meet which consisted of 400 participants. This was the first time Southern San Joaquin hosted the Federation event. |
