It is never too early to start planning for the 2019 Cross Country season, and there is no better way to prepare yourself for the upcoming season than by attending one of the renowned LA84 Foundation Cross Country Coaches clinics.
The clinics, which are absolutely free to all coaches and interested adults who would like to attend, will be presented on Sunday, June 2, and Saturday July 13, at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut (Mt. SAC).
Please make special note that the first Mt. SAC clinic--June 2--is on a Sunday, and the second clinic--July 13--is on a Saturday.
Each date will feature a full Advanced Level Clinic and a Beginning Level Clinic offered at the same location, so you may bring all your staff members, and they will all be able to attend specific sessions tailored just for them.
Our first summer clinic, which will be held on SUNDAY, June 2, at Mt. SAC, will feature presenters, Dr. Jeff Messer and Jason Druten.
Dr. Messer has been one of the most well-received presenters we have ever featured in our clinics. His practical, science-based approach has been the cornerstone of decades of success in Arizona.
Dr. Messer will present two sessions: “Endurance Training: Recent, Evolving Science and Application to Training Program Design” and “Endurance Training Program Design: An Evidence-Based, Physiological Perspective on ‘Why We Do What We Do’". Jason Druten has built the West Torrance High School program into a perennial national powerhouse, including most recently capturing the 2017 California State Championship.
Jason will discuss both the training philosophy and mental and emotional components that have developed West Torrance into a championship team.
Bill Ito, a member of USATF’s Olympic training staff, will also conduct special sessions on injury prevention and contemporary treatments.
We will also offer on Sunday, June 2, a full slate of Beginning Level sessions that will focus on recruiting, building a program, basic distance training physiology, and developing a season-long training plan.
Our second clinic, which will be held on SATURDAY, July 13, at Mt. SAC, will feature Sylvia Mosqueda, who has just been named as the new head track and cross country coach at Pepperdine University.
Coach Mosqueda has a perspective few other coaches can offer. She was a Southern California high school distance star in the 80s at San Gabriel High School. She then went on to become an NCAA champion in both cross country and track, and then followed that up with a two-decade long career as a National Champion and world class distance runner.
Patrick Bendzick, who led St. Margaret’s to a dominating win in last year’s California State Cross Country Championships, will also be presenting on his distance training philosophy and building that team chemistry that is so necessary to cross country success.
Furthermore, Bill Ito, will return with his sessions on injury prevention and contemporary treatments. And, we will offer our full Beginning Level training plan on the same date.
You can save yourself a great deal of time the morning of the clinic if you pre-register at our web site: LA84.org
The cost is absolutely free to everyone thanks to the great sponsorship of the LA84 Foundation.
