JAMES BAILEY ANNOUNCED AS KEYNOTE SPEAKER FOR 2024 SCMAF INSTITUTE

October 2, 2024– South El Monte, CA –SCMAF is excited to announce that this year’s keynote speaker is James Bailey.

James Thomas Bailey is a multi-faceted theatre artist, educator, and improvisational theatre expert well known in both the theatre and corporate worlds, as well as the educational community.   He is Artistic Director and Producer of ComedySportz®, one of Los Angeles' leading improvisational theatre companies and the longest running show in Los Angeles (36 years).  His work as a certified practitioner of Applied Improvisation has made him a popular guest teacher, lecturer and workshop facilitator at theatres, universities, and corporations around the United States. He has also served overseas as a Cultural Specialist for the U.S. State Department.

Mr. Bailey has proudly served on the boards of the Los Angeles Stage Alliance, California Educational Theatre Association (CETA), ComedySportz Worldwide, the California Alliance for Arts Education and West Coast Ensemble Theatre. Mr. Bailey was inducted into the national Educational Theatre Hall of Fame, the California Thespians Hall of Fame, and is recipient of the CETA Medallion from CA Educational Theatre Association for lifetime service to theatre education.
 
He is the creator of the largest teen improvisation program in the United States, which uses improvisational techniques to impart life skills in communication, innovation and teamwork to prepare students for college and the professional workplace. More than 25,000 students have participated in his life-changing training.  He is the author of Teaching Improv: A Practical Guide for Theatre Educators, which is used in schools across the United States.
 

The Institute Committee has been busy planning an informative day filled with dynamic sessions and speakers that will cover a variety of topics that will be beneficial to all recreation professionals.

Registration for the 54th Annual SCMAF Institute is underway. The Institute will be held at the Yorba Linda Community Center on Thursday, October 10. The deadline to register has been extended to, October 4 by 5:00 p.m.
