On a very hot Saturday (May 31, 2025) at Warren High School in Downey, over 500 athletes competed in SCMAF’s annual Track and Field Championships. Hundreds of family members and friends while trying to stay cool, cheered on from the stands as boys and girls between the ages of 7-15 competed in ten different track and field events. Over 15 different agencies throughout southern California participated in this meet.
After the Parade of Champions around the track, the first event, the 1600M run started at 9:41 AM with the last event of the day, the 200M dash ending slightly after 2:45 PM. There were 94 events throughout the day with SCMAF passing out close to 350 medals and 200 ribbons to the winners.
One meet record was broken during the course of the day! Sandy Fletcher III now holds the record in the 100 Meter Dash (Division 16, Age 9). The previous record dates back to 1998 which would be about 18 years before Sandy was even born. Sandy beat that record by .13 seconds. He now holds the record at 14.03 seconds. Congratulations to our new record holder!
A special thanks goes to all the volunteers for all their hard work in organizing this year’s meet. Also thanks to Warren High School for allowing us to host this event at this location for the past 17 years. The success of the Track and Field Championships could not have been achieved without the cooperation of all these individuals.
Lastly, thanks to all our competitors, coaches and family members. Even though it was hot, it was a great day of races and events. None of this would have been possible without the time and sacrifice all of these individuals made in order to participate in the meet. We hope you had a memorable experience and look forward to watching most of you compete next year. There may be a future Olympian for the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Games in our midst!
