SCMAF presented this year's Ball Field Maintenance Day through a partnership between CPRS District 11, CPRS Development & Operations, the City of Rancho Cucamonga, RHA Landscape Architects Planners, Inc and Loan Mart Field. The workshop was finally held after two rain outs on Valentine’s Day at Loan Mart Field in Rancho Cucamonga.

The workshop was held to inform grounds crew/recreational staff on how to get their fields ready for play and keep them looking good and safe all season long. In attendance were over 150 parks and recreation professionals representing 45 agencies all across southern California. The workshop was broken into six stations: Infield Renovation and Maintenance, Turf Renovation and Maintenance, Sports Turf Grass Types and Selection, Fertilization and Weed Control, Laser Leveling and a Facility Tour. Speakers included maintenance staff from Loan Mart Field, West Coast Turf, Turf Star as well as the former head groundskeeper of the San Diego Padres, Luke Yoder. Each station spent time going over tips and tricks to help maintain fields through the busy sports seasons and allowed time for the many questions from the attendees on hand.

Overall, the Ball Field Maintenance Day was a tremendous success, in large part due to the City of Rancho Cucamonga, CPRS District 11 and RHA. SCMAF would also like to thank Loan Mart Field for letting us use their facility and CPRS Development and Operations for allowing us to use online registration.

Look for SCMAF and CPRS to hold this training again in the fall in San Diego County.
