Founding SCMAF Member James Bishop passes away at 94

Services were held at the First United Methodist Church, 134 N. Kenwood Street, Glendale, CA at 10:00 AM on March 18, 2017. His wife of 58 years, "Betty", preceded him in death in 1999. "Jim" graduated from Pepperdine College. He worked for Glendale Parks & Recreation Department for 28 years, retiring as Director of Parks & Recreation. He was President of the Kiwanis Club. He was a founding member of SCMAF and also served as President. He served on the Board of Directors for the Kiwanis Club, YMCA, Salvation Army, Glendale Beautiful, Glendale Community Foundation, and Treasurer of the Glendale Red Cross. He received the "Liberty Bell" award from the Glendale Bar Association. He served as Master of Ceremonies for over 40 years at the Glendale Old Timers Assoc. Picnic. He enjoyed baseball, and bowling, scoring a 300 at both Verdugo Hills and Jewel City bowl. He leaves two daughters, Bonnie and Joanne, 17 grandchildren, one brother, and two sisters.

Annually SCMAF presents the Jim Bishop Award which is presented to a SCMAF Member who has provided outstanding leadership, innovation, commitment and involvement in SCMAF, and who has advanced SCMAF programs, including, but not limited to Team Registration and Insurance Medical Benefits.

In 1999, Jim Bishop,  established an endowment fund in honor of his late wife to provide a cash award to a SCMAF Member for ongoing and outstanding contributions to the Federation and dedication to the profession.
