There is no more successful distance coach in America than Dr. Joe Vigil; moreover, there is no better coach at translating what he has learned to the high school coach than Dr. Vigil, and you will have the opportunity to see Dr. Vigil present on Saturday, July 14, at the LA84 Foundation Cross Country Coaches Clinic at Mt. SAC.

This clinic, which is absolutely free to all coaches and interested adults who would like to attend, will offer a full day of Advanced Sessions and also a full day of Beginning Level sessions, so your entire staff can attend and benefit.

Dr. Vigil will first discuss the variables each coach must understand to develop successful distance runners, and then he will present a second session on how to taper training to ensure success in the championship season.

In addition to Dr. Vigil, elite-level coaches Terrence Mahon and Marco Ochoa also will be presenting.

Terrence Mahon, who is respected around the world as a top distance coach, grew up in the California high school system, so he understands the demands and challenges we all face.

After working with Dr. Vigil and Bob Larsen in coaching the athletes in the Mammoth Track Club, Terrence was hired by the British Athletic Association to become its Lead Endurance Coach and train its distance runners.

Coach Mahon will present a special session outlining the best aspects of the British system as it pertains to training high school age athletes. He will also do a second session on the importance of teaching proper running mechanics.

Marco Ochoa, who was an All-American while running for Dr. Vigil, has taken the principles he learned at Adams State to lead Orange Coast College in becoming one of the top Community College programs in the country.

Coach Ochoa will explain how Dr. Vigil’s principles of training can be applied to the California high school runner.

On the same day, we will also offer the full LA84 Foundation Beginning Level Clinic, which will cover basic principles of training, recruiting, and CIF rules; so, no matter what your current level is as a coach, there will be great sessions for you at our July 14th clinic.
